The FLAVA Fall Conference is a prominent gathering that brings together educators for an enriching blend of workshops, sessions, and discussions that address the current trends and challenges in foreign language teaching. Each year, FLAVA gathers educators, administrators, and scholars of Virginia’s world language programs and supports their professional development needs and interests in teaching, technology, pedagogy, and learning. This annual event creates a space for pedagogical innovation, reflection, and forward-thinking strategies aimed at enriching the language learning experience for students. Our last Fall Conference featured over 160 engaging sessions and approximately 650 participants.
A teacher of 14 years and a lifelong student, Ben Tinsley has dedicated his professional and personal life to the pursuit of substantive diversity, equity, and belonging in education. In the classroom, he has had the opportunity to work with teachers and schools around the world to develop curricula that center Black Indigenous Communities of Color and other historically marginalized peoples. Ben’s recent work has focused primarily on leveraging language acquisition and language education toward developing global literacy and 21st-Century competencies.

We look forward to welcoming all of you to FLAVA 2023: Adapt & Empower on October 12 – 14, 2023.
