Upper School French Teacher (Grades 9-12)

The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated and dynamic educator to teach French to students in Grades 9-12 starting in the 2025-26 school year. Our school, which serves over 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning, rooted in the Western Liberal Arts tradition, and focused on the formation of the whole person—mind, body, and soul. Our faculty leads with an incarnational approach that seeks to equip and inspire students to live well through service to God and others.

Position Overview:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in French and will possess a thorough knowledge of the literature, art, history, and culture of the francophone world. Candidates should possess a mature, Christian faith and an educational philosophy that is consistent with The Covenant School’s mission statement and Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences pedagogy. A strong command of spoken French is a must as we strive to meet ACTFL’s recommendation of a 90% usage of the target language in the classroom. The candidate should be passionate about working with adolescents, able to connect with them on a personal level, and dedicated to fostering their holistic development as individuals created in the image of God. Given Covenant’s mission, candidates must also have the ability to share their Christian faith authentically in the context of their teaching.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in French, or a related field;
Proven experience teaching high school students;
Strong ability to integrate their Christian faith authentically in the context of their teaching.
