The Steward School seeks an enthusiastic and committed Spanish Tutor. This is a part-time non- benefited position reporting to the Director of The Center for the Advancement of Learning.

General Description
The Center for the Advancement of Learning maintains a team of dedicated and knowledgeable tutors who empower and support the students at the Steward School. Tutors provide academic support in core academic classes, developmental support for foundational skills in literacy and mathematics, and appropriate intervention for Spanish-language learning. Tutors also teach strategies for personal
organization, time management, test-taking, and study skills to improve self-advocacy skills and eventually greater personal accomplishments. One-on-one in-person tutoring occurs during the school day 8:00 AM – 3:20 PM (before and after school tutoring options depend on tutor schedules). All duties are performed on the school campus in the Middle/Upper School library tutoring rooms during the school year. Summer tutoring is optional and locations vary. Compensation is $60/hr. School supplies, textbooks, online access, and on-site printing capabilities are provided.

Duties and Responsibilities:
● Collaborate with teachers and parents to provide developmentally appropriate instruction to advance each student’s understanding of Spanish in one-on-one sessions
● Coach the student in study skills, test-taking strategies, managing weekly schedules, homework and project planning.
● Consult online platform (My School App) to gauge progress and monitor grades and assignment completion.
● Stimulate learning and meet the needs of students through a variety of instructional approaches
● Communicate with teachers, administration, and families regarding current academic performance and rate of progress through emails and biannual tutoring reports
● Participate in conferences and team meetings with teachers, administration, and families concerning academic progress for students on tutoring caseload, as needed.
● Utilize multiple tools to assess student progress on an ongoing basis and alter instruction when necessary
● Incorporate and model appropriate use of technology to support instruction and student learning
● Provide instructional support to students utilizing virtual platforms (if necessary)
● Maintain a professional manner when interacting with students, teachers, parents, and colleagues
● Maintain records of tutoring session details, progress, and attendance to support billing and tutoring reports.
● Submit on-time billing spreadsheets each month

Qualifications:
● Bachelor's degree in Spanish, or comparable experience/education
● Three years of classroom experience with 6-12th grade preferred
● Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
● Thoughtful and evaluative writing skills
● Approachable personality and ability to maintain effective working relationships with others
● Strong skills in operating personal computers and related software (MS Office, Outlook, Google Suite, Zoom and Blackbaud)
● Adaptable to changing priorities, ability to work independently and/or with minimum supervision, and the ability to effectively handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
● Ability to work in a cooperative manner with students, parents, teachers, staff, and administrators
● Flexible and organized enough to manage an 8-day rotating school schedule
● Willingness to commit to the success of each student and his/her personal growth.

Time Commitment:
● Very flexible
● Able to manage 8-10 students weekly
● Must be available to tutor students through the final exam period at the end of the school year
● 30 to 60-minute sessions can be scheduled throughout the school day, 8 AM-3:20 PM
● Sessions may be scheduled during Study Halls, electives, and Community Time. These sessions may be scheduled during study halls, electives, and Community Time. Due to the 8-day rotation, this schedule varies each week.
● Before and after school are optional, depending on the tutor and student’s schedule
● Weekly scheduling is done directly with the parent or student via email or Reminder text
● Weekly tutoring room reservations are made via Outlook
