FLAVA President’s Message – May 2023 Greetings, FLAVA Members! Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!!! I know some schools are celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week the first week in May and others are celebrating it the second week. No matter when your school is celebrating YOU, please know how much FLAVA appreciates you! I am so grateful and blessed to work with such amazing World Language educators here in Virginia! I am also thankful for all of my former teachers and professors for being such great role models and inspiration for me. I would not be where I am today without these wonderful and amazing educators. To all of you, I say thank you!!!! I know that this year has not been easy, but you are doing your best and showing up each day for your students and your colleagues. No matter how you are celebrated this week, I want you to know that YOU are an AMAZING TEACHER and I hope that you can take some time this week or next week to acknowledge all the wonderful things you are doing. There is so much exciting FLAVA news to share this month and I am so excited to share all these updates with you! Last month we shared how proud we were of Shane Goodpasture, for representing us as the Best of FLAVA at SCOLT. We were recently notified that Shane was named Best of SCOLT 2023 and will be representing SCOLT and FLAVA at ACTFL 2023 in Chicago! We are so proud of Shane and know he will do an amazing job at ACTFL! The Spring Conference was held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Washington & Lee University. A huge thank you to Dr. Dick Kuettner and the staff of Washington & Lee University for hosting our Spring Mini Conference! Thanks to all of the presenters and attendees for a great day of language learning and sharing! Please welcome Dr. Amanda Romjue as the new FLAVA Conference Coordinator.
