As Organizational Members of ACTFL, I am delighted to share with you and your colleagues that we are currently accepting student applications for the 2021 Lead with LanguagesTeacher Scholarship Program.
Entering its third year, this program provides merit-based scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are committed to pursuing the language teaching profession in languages other than English. Scholars are awarded $1,500 per academic year (renewable for a cumulative total of $6,000 per recipient), as well as a one-year membership to ACTFL upon entering the profession. Ten Scholars representing a range of languages and home states were selected in both 2019 and 2020.
I invite you to learn more about the Program, including full eligibility requirements and updated submission procedures, on our Lead with Languages site. Applications must be submitted online on or before Friday, May 28, 2021.
Please consider sharing this information with others in your organization, directly with high school seniors, and broadly throughout your network. Together, we’re helping to bolster the recruitment and retention of language educators, as we celebrate this important step in the academic journey of future colleagues.
When asked about their motivations, one current Scholar shared: “I want to be the language teacher that drives a student to want to be bilingual, because I know the profound impact it can have on a student’s life.”
As always, we remain dedicated to supporting the goals and dreams of tomorrow’s leaders in the field.
Please don’t hesitate should you have any questions.
Warm regards,
Erin Whelchel
