LOWER SCHOOL Foreign Language Teacher K-5
Position Description
The Covenant School is seeking a dynamic language teacher to shepherd our students in their first steps in becoming lovers of language. This teacher will be conversationally fluent in Spanish and/or French with a strong grasp of the people, places, and products of the Spanish-speaking and/or Francophone world. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to Covenant’s Christian principles and should have the ability to meaningfully integrate faith into their teaching, recognizing that God’s Kingdom is made up of people “from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages” (Revelation 7:9) and that all people bear the image of our Creator and are worthy of dignity, care, and respect. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in a related field as well as an education degree are preferred. The ideal candidate will cultivate strong partnerships with parents while fostering an engaging and positive culture in the classroom.

Primary Responsibilities

This person is responsible for:
Fostering a classroom environment that promotes joy in learning, love of language, and care and respect for others
Teaching students conversational Spanish and/or French appropriate to their level using a wide variety of songs, stories, art, illustrations, and artifacts relevant to the target language
Exposing students to the diversity of people, places, and cultures where the target language is spoken
Designing lessons using the Understanding by Design (UbD) model
Differentiating lessons to meet the needs of all students
Performing duties such as lunchroom, hall monitoring, and playground
Performing other related duties as directed by the Head of Lower School
Participating in professional development
