20 Jan 2014 FLAVA Conference
The 2014 FLAVA Conference takes place Sept. 25-27, a great time to share ideas and get inspiration for the whole school year. Growing attendance has sent us to a larger hotel – the DoubleTree by Hilton in Williamsburg. Over 100 years old, FLAVA remains one of the most active and vibrant foreign language associations in the nation, and our conference is a big part of the reason why. You can propose a session through April 18, and you can now register and book your hotel. If you have attended past FLAVA conferences you know that the halls are teeming with colleagues interested in learning new ideas, sharing their best lessons and speaking another language. It’s a great place to remember why we do what we do, and to get even better at doing it!
The 2013 Conference — Go Global — coincided with the launch of our new website. The combination allowed FLAVA to post hundreds of documents, slide shows and other resources that members could download after attending presentations. (Click here to see them). Together we extended the benefits of the conference throughout the year. The generosity and hard work of the presenters was an inspiration to all of us.
Looking for ways to get even more out of your attendance this year? There are still a few days to propose a session. You can also offer to volunteer when you register, and get to know some of FLAVA’s most active members. FLAVA is run by an elected board and volunteers, and is always looking for more people to contribute. Volunteering gives you a chance to mix with colleagues from across the state, and FLAVA’s Facebook page allows us to stay in touch and share ideas all year long. New teachers, retired teachers — everyone’s voice is needed and welcome.
Don’t forget to register and get a hotel room, while our special rate applies (through September 5). We can’t wait to see you!
