FLAVA 2020 Fall Conference Notes from the President

FLAVA 2020 Fall Conference Notes from the President

Hello, FLAVA!

Many thanks to all who were able to attend and lead in FLAVA’s first virtual conference for language educators. What a theme — Beyond Languages! What we learned this last weekend only reinforces the importance of possessing communicative skills in languages other than our native tongue and gives living proof to the necessity of the 5C’s as we take on Global challenges. There is no doubt in my mind that we are heading in the right direction because of what you have to offer and what you share. Keep it up!

I truly hope you enjoyed our keynote speaker, Amanda Seewald. Was I not right in stating that she is dynamic, dedicated, and knowledgeable? With my super spyglasses (Internet tested), I could see that some of you were even wanting to give her a standing ovation. As a benefit of our virtual format, you will be able to watch that address again, when it is uploaded to SCHED.

In fact, all live sessions were recorded and will be placed on SCHED over the course of the next couple of weeks. We will let you know when they are ready for viewing. Pre-recorded sessions are there now! Through SCHED and the Collaborative Share pages, you already have access to materials for all the sessions.

I have to give a special shout-out to all our exhibitors. Without them, our conferences would not happen…at least not at the registration fee we are able to give you. Exhibitor support makes it possible to keep conference registration affordable. Over the course of the upcoming weeks, we will be featuring each of our exhibitors so you will be able to get to know them better. They support us in so many ways including providing the tools we need to do our jobs well.

Conference Committee, thanks for putting all this together. Volunteers your help, for sure, made things run smoothly.

Everyone, remember to go to SCHED and give us your feedback about the conference. Your responses will help us in scrutinizing content, revising the schedule, and revitalizing the ambiance of things. The conference evaluation deadline is October 16, 2020. Also, make note that you will need to complete the evaluation in order to receive the certificate of attendance.

It’s time for spring conference planning. Once we have something definite on that, I will share the details with you.

Enough for now. As always, my best to you.

Dick Kuettner
President
