Call for Language Teachers: Survey on AI in Language Classrooms
How are language teachers currently using AI in their classrooms?
Nicholas Mueller, an English language teacher and PhD student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, is conducting a research study exploring how educators are using artificial intelligence (AI) in language teaching.
The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and is open to language teachers across languages, educational settings, and levels of experience.
What does the study involve?
The survey explores:
- How AI is currently being used in language classrooms
- Teachers’ experiences, preferences, and approaches to AI
- The ways AI tools are being incorporated into classroom activities and assignments
- Opportunities and challenges associated with responsible AI integration
At the end of the survey, participants may also have the opportunity to volunteer for a focus group. These discussions will examine specific AI-based classroom strategies in greater depth and contribute to the development of practical examples of responsible AI integration in language education.
Why participate?
The goal of this research is to develop pedagogically sound lessons and assignments that incorporate AI while complementing teachers’ existing practices, preferences, and levels of AI experience.
Input from language teachers is essential to this effort. Whether you teach a world language, English as an additional language, or another language; whether you are new to AI or have extensive experience with it; and whether you teach in K–12, higher education, or another setting, your perspective can help shape this work.
Interested in the findings?
You can also indicate that you would like to receive information about the study’s findings and recommendations for potential use in professional development, regardless of whether you complete the survey.
