Lower School Spanish Teacher, Part-time

The Steward School seeks an enthusiastic and committed Lower School Spanish teacher for the 2024-2025 academic year. This is a part-time, non-benefited faculty position reporting to the Director of Lower School.

Responsibilities:

The preferred candidate will be able to:
o Plan and deliver creative and effective instruction that develops critical thinking skills.
o Deliver each class in the target language to create a full classroom immersion experience.
o Utilize technology to facilitate instruction.
o Collaborate effectively with colleagues.
o Post and maintain curriculum, syllabi, and grades.
o Demonstrate familiarity with differentiated learning instruction.

The position includes other duties as assigned by the Director of Lower School.

This position requires flexibility, the ability to dialogue with teachers, excellent observational skills, and the creation of lessons that are developmentally tailored for each grade level group of students.

Qualifications and experience:
Bachelor’s degree and major concentration in Spanish and/or Education is required.

The preferred candidate will have:
o A native or near-native language proficiency.
o A master’s degree and/or Commonwealth of Virginia certification.
o A passion for teaching the Spanish language and culture in a creative, integrated, and innovative way.
o Knowledge about and experience with the developmental, social, emotional, and cognitive issues of early childhood and primary grades.
o Experience teaching Spanish at multiple levels.
o Technological proficiency in the classroom including Google Educational apps, interactive whiteboards, and electronic grade books.
o Growth mindset and willingness to pursue ongoing professional development.
o Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with other Lower School teachers.

Compensation and Benefits:
Commensurate with experience and education
