Our spring CAV meeting will be held at the College of William and Mary on Saturday, May 3, 2014. There will be long and short presentations, an auction, awards and recognitions along with a luncheon. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome, and they receive free membership. See the spring 2014 newsletter online at www.cavclassics.org for more information. Some interested members will gather the night before for dinner and socializing.

Mark Keith stepped down last fall as CAV Website Editor after having served for 16 years and having originally created our website. Mark is currently Co-Chairman of the National Latin Exam Committee in addition to his teaching duties at Riverbend High School. Charlaine Lunsford of Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth has been appointed to fill the position.

Historian Linda Montross is compiling a manual of duties and procedures for officers. This will provide members with information and a blueprint as they consider holding an office in CAV.This is expected to be finished by May, 2014.

CAV continues its traditions of offering a Latin Tournament, a Classical Essay writing contest and a Latin Essay Writing Contest this spring. Information about these contests can be found on the website in the Fall 2013 issue of the newsletter.

The American Classical League Institute is a three-day convention of Latin teachers from the U.S. and Canada. This year’s Institute will be held at The College of William and Mary June 26-28 with a Pre-Institute option. Teachers present ideas, and a book display offers materials available for purchase. Receptions, speakers, awards and a banquet round out the conference. The Classical Association of Virginia will be sponsoring one of the breaks for the meeting. The Classical Association of the Middle West and South – Southern Section will hold its meeting this fall, October 16-18, at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg. CAV will hold its fall meeting in conjunction with this conference on Saturday, October 18th. For more information, see www.camws.org/southernsection/
