President’s Message – Back to School 2019

President’s Message – Back to School 2019

Dear Colleagues,

I want to take this opportunity to wish you all the very best for another school year and to share some very important deadlines with you.

  1. If you would like some innovative ideas for instruction, the fall FLAVA conference is October 3-5, 2019 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Williamsburg. FLAVA is excited to feature Akash Patel as our guest speaker. You can view a video from Akash on our conference page.

The deadline for early bird registration is September 15, 2019. The deadline for the special hotel rate ($100 per diem) is September 8, 2019. After the 8th, rooms may not available and certainly not at this rate.

The link to register is here. Please remember that if you have an existing user account for the FLAVA website, you must login to successfully register with the account’s email address.

  1. Elections will take place at the fall conference. There are three candidates for President-elect and one candidate for Communications Coordinator. You may read all about our candidates by clicking here. If for some reason you cannot attend the fall conference and have paid your membership for 2019-2020 or are a life member, you will receive an email which will allow you to vote during certain hours of the conference. Please look for that email on the afternoon of October 4th.

  1. FLAVA has launched a new program to encourage our World Language students to follow in our footsteps and become World Language Teachers!!! Please see the attached flyers and nominating form for all of the details of the program and be thinking of nominees from your classrooms that can fill these spots! We need World Language educators and hope to use this program to encourage language students to move into this profession. The deadline is September 15, 2019.

  1.  Criteria form

  2.  Flyer for classroom

  3.  Student application/Teacher nomination form

I look forward to welcoming you to the fall conference in early October!

Best,

Sue Robertson
President, Foreign Language Association of Virginia
